John
Davies Voice Training
"Singing Teacher" is a term I do not like. It implies
all the wrong things. The true situation is more that I ‘help’
you with the voice you already have. I show you how to sustain your
singing for long periods of time without suffering any vocal injury. I
also show you what to do to make your sound a bit better than what
it is. AND THEN….you practice!
I think the word ‘coach’ is better than ‘singing
teacher’. Anyway, I think it is very important that you really
enjoy your voice lessons, and that we are successful. Whether you are
a complete beginner, or an established artist, I will be pleased
to hear from you. Just contact me! And if you have to call me a
singing teacher, then, Go Ahead! In a career of stage performance,
I have been called lots worse!!
A Word About Style
I have trained many singers from all areas - hard rock to blues to
music theatre to opera. It doesn't matter what style you want to sing
in - my job is to make sure that you have a voice that can sustain
long hours of work without injury. So, you see, this will apply to
any situation whether you want to sing in an amateur production of
Evita, the church choir's Christmas show, a cabaret, a rock band or
professional stagings of grand opera. The main point is that you must
have a healthy voice with a technique which allows you to do whatever
you want.
Note for Australians Requiring Voice Training
I have a studio in Sydney, in the middle of the city; so it is easy
to get there by public transport. If you are not from Sydney, then
contact me anyway, and you might be able to come for just a short
time. (I can work very fast!) Alternatively, contact me from one of
the other capital cities, and I will try to see you while I am working
in that location. You can make an arrangement to use some space at
the opera house or the conservatorium. You will find that the administrative
staff in these places are very helpful.
Note for Overseas Students
I see quite a few singers who come from overseas. If you want me to
give you some voice training then contact me, and we will make arrangements
to suit your schedule.
Alternatively, you can book time in your local conservatoire, and
I will be able to see you when I have completed my obligations in
that area. If I am not working in your particular region, then maybe
I will be close by, and you will be able to meet me where I am working.
If you are in Marseilles, for instance, then it is not so difficult
for you to come to Paris, where I can give you some instruction
at the Conservatoire.
I speak a few languages other than English, so instruction is not
all that hard. Although, I don’t think many of you will be
looking for instruction in Latin! Instruction in Latin has not been
terribly fashionable for a few centuries now!
Vocal Emergencies
If you are performing anywhere in the world and you are finding that
your voice is letting you down, then write me a complete description
of what is going wrong, and I’ll do my best to help you out.
Of course, if I can’t actually hear what’s going wrong,
it is a little difficult to say what the problem is, but I have a
100% success-rate with this so far. (Fingers Crossed!!)
